In addition to the numerous national parks scattered around, the area is also rich in history. Its original inhabitants were the Wijaduri who were a group of indigenous Australian Aboriginal people who populated most of Central New South Wales.

In 1821, James Blackman was the first European to traverse the area. Settlements in Capertee soon followed. The district became known for its quality wool production. Its good water supply also made it a popular rest stop for travelers heading to Mudgee.

Gardens of Stone National Park

 

This one of a kind park features beautiful rock formations that create a gardenlike appearance. It forms part of the Greater Blue Mountains that’s listed as a World Heritage sites. During your visit, make sure to explore the natural ironstone pagodas surrounded by wind pruned healthland plants. This natural garden is less than half an hour away from the lodge.

Turon National Park

 

A few minutes from the Capertee Valley Retreats is the Turon National Park. This wildlife paradise was one of the focal spots of the 19th century gold rush. Along with rare bird species and the abundant number of trout for fishing, the park also offers remnants of its exciting history.

Wollemi National Park

 

The largest wilderness area in New South Wales forms part of the Greater Blue Mountains. Wollemi is a nature lover and hiker’s paradise with its labyrinth of cliffs and canyons and undisturbed forest. Its popular attractions include the Colo and Wolgan Rivers, and the Glow Worm Tunnel.

Mugii Murrum-ban State Conservation Area

 

Named after the Widajuri elder Charles Riley, this park is where you will find Mount Genowlan and Mount Airly. With over 340 plant species and distinct shale rock and sandstone formations, the area is a virtual paradise.
